Warm and Comfortable
There are Two bedrooms downstairs (1 queen, the other is a single over double bunk) and a mezzanine floor upstairs above the living area. The mezzanine sleeps 3 in a single and 2 king-singles (we usually sleep the kids up here as it is fantastically warm and cosy with the fire directly below it in the living area). Overall sleeping for eight comfortably.
There is a full bathroom and two toilets. The downstairs bedrooms have heated towel rails and efficient electric panel heaters, and there are thermal blinds and curtains throughout.

HistoryThe chalet also has some interesting history... The story goes that it was originally a cafe on Whakapapa (the northern Ruapehu ski field), and was brought down off the mountain and relocated to Ohakune in the late 1980s. This accounts for the very heavy "alpine" wooden construction, and warmth, of the house. More recently, it served as the main base and broadcast studio of the local SKI-FM radio station for several years until the station relocated into town in late 2009. You can still see some remnants of the radio years around the property.
